Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I was born and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and after a lot of moving around and traveling post grad, I have settled down in Los Angeles… at least for now. About six months ago I left my corporate job and have been pursuing freelance work in social media managing, content creation and styling. I am so excited to be doing what I am passionate about. I think I’m the happiest I have ever been.
What was it like to leave your corporate job and start freelancing full-time? Any tips?
Not gonna lie, it was spooky! But it was perfect timing. The social media startup I was working at wasn’t doing well and ended up laying off the majority of its employees, so for the first time in my adult career, I was without a job and in a weird limbo. But it gave me time to reevaluate and the opportunity to pivot, which I am so, so thankful for. In terms of switching to freelance, be confident! Start pitching yourself to brands you want to work for and make as many connections that you can. Keep at it, things will start to fall into place.
